LA to Paris- gift for host family?

I’m from Los Angeles and I’m spending a year abroad in Paris with a host family that I will not meet (so I know NOTHING about them) until I arrive in Paris on 9/11. I’ve read over other q/a’s for “what do I bring my host family in France?” and saw that several people suggested items from ones hometown– but would Hollywood/LA touristy souvenirs be too cheesy/vulgar/offensive though? I mean, I know the French are sophisticated and love art, and I don’t want to offend them with kitsch. But all I can think of are touristy key chains, frames, books, calendars, etc… and I have no desire to transport wine, just in case you were thinking of mentioning Californian wines ;).

I would love some opinions on this. Thank you so much!

don’t bring off the rack items if they have kids find out what they are in to maybe like a item from the usa from local store like wal mart no they don’t have shops open 24 hours a day like we do or food stores kids eat tons of chocolate here the mom and dad may not be used to gifts so something small if they do speak english and you better hope they do maybe books music for the mom and dad , kids any toys , ohh i know what if they have small kids they don’t have crayons here don’t ask never understood that but like the big box of Crayola Crayons with coloring books maybe some craft using them they don’t use elmer glue eather can’t find it here . what we take for granted they never even seen or use be for like jello or kool aid not here in france they only have pepsi and coke and 7 up and spirt usa pops they don’t even have TWIZZLERS candy or many of our candys maybe abig box of chocolates for the mom or dad

Which are the best vineyards in california and which allow wine-tasting? What should I expect if I visit?

Me and my boyfriend really enjoy wine and plan to take a trip to a vineyard. Locations are easy to find, but we want to know what to expect, the people who run the place, and if some provide accomodations.

Try Cakebread Cellars in Napa. Especially if you like white wine! Particularly chardonnays.

Wine consumption is rising in America and decreasing in France. What´s the reason?

Wine is a very controversial issue. People are drinking less in France. That´s great !!! But in most of the states people do believe wine is good and necessary. Why ? What a different trend! Only french and americans answerers for this question!

idk, beer is better anyway.

theological debate…?

Scholars have long debated the exact ethnicity and nationality of Jesus.
Recently, at a theological meeting in Rome, scholars had a heated debate
on this subject. One by one, they offered their evidence………….

THREE PROOFS THAT JESUS WAS MEXICAN:

1. His first name was Jesus

2. He was bilingual

3. He was always being harassed by the authorities

But then there were equally good arguments that…..

JESUS WAS BLACK

1. He called everybody "brother"

2. He liked Gospel

3. He couldn't get a fair trial

But then there were equally good arguments that…….

JESUS WAS JEWISH

1. He went into His Father's business

2. He lived at home until he was 33

3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin, and his Mother
was sure he was God

But then there were equally good arguments that…….

JESUS WAS ITALIAN

1. He talked with his hands

2. He had wine with every meal

3. He used olive oil

But then there were equally good arguments that…….

JESUS WAS A CALIFORNIAN

1. He never cut his hair

2. He walked around barefoot

3. He started a new religion

But then there were equally good arguments that…….

JESUS WAS IRISH

1. He never got married

2. He was always telling stories

3. He loved green pastures

But perhaps the most compelling evidence ………

THREE PROOFS THAT JESUS WAS A WOMAN …..

1. He had to feed a crowd at a moment's notice when
there was no food

2. He kept trying to get the message across to a bunch
of men who JUST DIDN'T GET IT

3. Even when He was dead, He had to get up because
there was more work for him to do
'Very interesting and proves that there is for those of us who believe(i believe) that there is only one God'

how does it prove anything? your sad mary o.

AWESOME!

thaks for that!

Why did Christians get to use communion wine during prohibition, but American-Indians couldn't use Peyote?

US Prohibition
Also not that American-Indian use of Peyote is still legally in pseudo-limbo.

Because most christians were white, and if it was native american, it was wrong in their minds. In a 4-year time period, 17,000,000 buffalo were killed by whites. They were killed, skinned, de-tongued, de-horned, and left there to rot. This was for the sole reason to killl off plains natives food source. The massacre at Wounded Knee was because we wouldnt stop dancing after it was outlawed. This is like us going into a church, and killing people for praying. That is why we dance, is to pray. And peyote is only used by some southwestern nations. And just for a little more information, we are not "Indians", we are Native Americans. When Colombus got here, he thought he was in india, so he called the natives "Indians", it just stuck. Have you ever seen a truly black black man? No, but the original africans were so dark, that from a distance, they looked black. Names get started and stick due to ignorance.
