Stryker Sonoma - Winery

The view across the Alexander Valley from the expansive glass tasting room at Stryker Sonoma is truly quintessential California wine country. Beyond the cliche, this beautiful view of rolling hills and rows of orderly vineyards trailing off into the distance, is one to remember.

At the eastern side of the Alexander Valley, six miles north of Healdsburg on highway 128, the Stryker Sonoma tasting room is worth the visit. Come for a wine tasting, then have a picnic on the winery’s grounds. The modern steel, glass and stone tasting room won architecture accolades when it opened in 2002 and remains a destination for architectural aficionados.

Stryker Sonoma offers a fine selection of varietal wines served at the long curved wooden bar facing their vineyards. They offer three different flights for tasting. The first is free and the other two, featuring their premium wines, are $7. and $15. respectively.

The rich fruit-forward Cabernets are Stryker’s calling card. They consider themselves, what is called in the wine industry, a “cab house.” Our favorite was their 2004 Speedy Creek Vineyard Cabernet which would pair nicely with a beef or other red meats for the winter season.

The well spoken and knowledgeable staff enhanced the quality of our experience. We enjoyed our conversations and learned about wines while tasting some fine ones. This winery is also a great site for weddings and special events.

Wines from Stryker Sonoma are available only at the tasting room, through their wine club and online. They have limited production and do not distribute to retail outlets.
